SUMMAYA MUGHAL (Senior Journalist, BBC)

Summaya Mughal, 30, is a Senior BBC TV/Radio Presenter, Journalist, Actor-Musician and brown gal behind BBC Sounds podcast ‘Brown Gal Can’t Swim’ (BGCS). She trained as an actor at The Television Workshop and began her presenting career 4 years ago after swapping a graduate programme in accounting and auditioning for ‘Untapped’, a BBC Radio Nottingham competition for a new weekday evening presenter. Within a year of winning the competition she was promoted to Breakfast Presenter (BBC Radio Leicester), presented the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1, and was awarded The Radio Academy’s 30 Under 30 and the BBC Local Radio Gillard for Newcomer of the Year. 


Alongside presenting at The Olympics, fronting investigative TV documentaries for BBC One and reporting for BBC East Midlands, she recently launched her debut podcast her Brown Gal Can’t Swim alongside 4x Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington which follows Summaya’s journey of learning to swim in 8 weeks, whilst investigating why South Asian women across the UK do not/cannot swim.
